Everything changed after I visited a Mario Testino exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. I was inspired by the glamorous, sensual portraits on display, but what really stayed with me was overhearing two women saying they would love beautiful portraits of themselves, but wouldn’t know where to go and wouldn’t feel comfortable with a male photographer.
That moment made me realise there was a huge gap in the market.
Growing up as the daughter of a photographer, I’d spent years in male-dominated studio environments and understood exactly how intimidating they could feel for women wanting intimate portraits taken.
So, sitting around my kitchen table with my friend Sally, we came up with the name For Your Eyes Only Portraits, and the business was born.
The growth was incredible. By 2007, I’d opened a second studio in Manchester and eventually expanded to several studios across the UK with a team of 20 staff. Over the years, we photographed more than 23,000 women and generated over £10 million in sales. I even travelled to Moscow to help another woman launch her own boudoir photography business.
But despite all the growth, what has never changed is how much I care about the women I photograph. Every client still means as much to me as my very first one did.
I truly believe every woman deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and celebrated in her own skin, and that passion is still at the heart of everything I do today.
