I refused to give my husband the bridal boudoir gift he was probably expecting…
When I got married for the second time at 49, I knew my husband-to-be would probably expect beautiful bridal boudoir portraits from me. After all, I’m a bridal boudoir photographer!
So I decided to surprise him instead.
Rather than wearing bridal lingerie, I chose fun, playful costumes—a nurse, a police officer, bondage-inspired outfits—and created something completely unexpected.
Then I made the way he received them just as memorable.
I printed the photographs just larger than a Polaroid and hid them around our hotel room the night before our wedding. In his wash bag. His overnight bag. His jacket pocket.
Watching him discover them one by one was so much fun.
Weddings are often centred around everyone else—family, guests and traditions. But this was something that belonged only to us.
That’s what I love most about bridal boudoir.

Brides, if you’ve ever struggled with attaching stockings to a suspender belt, here’s the easiest way to do it.
Stockings and suspenders are still really popular with brides here in the For Your Eyes Only Portrait Studio.
Part of my job as your bridal boudoir photographer is to help you get dressed.
I thought I’d just put together a quick-fire guide of how to attach your suspender belt to your stockings.
Each suspender belt has straps which dangle down, and at the end of the straps are a hook and a rubber shape with a circle in it.
So separate the rubber shape from the metal hook and feed the rubber shape behind the top of the stocking.
These are stockings, not hold-ups, which means that you don’t have to fight against the rubbery stocking top.
So as you can see, I’m feeding the rubber shape behind the stocking, and then I’m feeding it into the bigger hole at the top of the metal shape and feeding it down. That attaches nicely to the stocking.
You can see there that the stockings are not too tight. There’s lots of space around, so lots of stretchiness, and that is perfect.

The truth about the Polaroid pictures for the groom trend…
It’s not what you think.
I’ve seen brides try this trend… and I have some more exciting ideas for you.

Leave a beautifully wrapped album or photo box with a note that simply says, “Meet me at the altar.” Then leave. Let the anticipation do the work.
📱 2. The Digital Countdown
Send a few images throughout the wedding morning. Start flirty, build the excitement, and leave them wanting more.
📸 3. The Polaroid Twist
Don’t give away all the best shots. Gift a few Polaroid-style teaser prints on the morning of the wedding… then surprise them later with the full album.
🥂 4. My Favourite (and what I did)
Wait until you’re finally alone together after your wedding. Then give them your boudoir album in private.
No interruptions.
No audience.
Just the two of you.

Brides have been bringing in these garter belt stocking attachments to wear for their bridal boudoir shoots. They’re so cool because you don’t have to be wearing a matching lingerie set.
Put two hands into the toe of your stocking, and then pull the stocking up with the inside of your palms. Don’t make contact with your nails on those stockings; otherwise, you’ll snag them.
When you want to attach the stockings, if you’re here in the studio with me, I will help you to get those stocking attachments on because they can be quite tricky, especially if you’re wearing hold-ups.
These are hold-ups, so there’s rubber at the top of the stocking, which means that when you’re trying to push the inside of the stocking cloth down into the metal bit, which is basically what fastens it, it can just be a little bit tricky.

Two weeks after this picture was taken, I was back shooting brides. Leaving my newborn son. That was tough.
Looking back I feel emotional about that.
But by the time my second child was born I had a team of female photographers to run the business so I could take time out to be with my baby.
Here’s the reason why I could do that.
I’d spotted a gap in the market for a scalable photography business - a female led portrait studio offering boudoir for brides to be. Helping them to create a wedding gift.
I knew I could run a business that delivered a sensitive, creative service that would make women feel comfortable and body confident in front of the camera.

🐝 The habits I’m building as a 52-year-old boudoir photographer might surprise you…
For me, growing older isn’t about denying my age. Although some days I’d like to! These are a few of the habits I’m trying, to help me feel better…
Daily dry body brushing…
I absolutely love it. It’s become a mindful way to connect with my body and check in with every little part of it. My skin feels softer and smoother, and the lymphatic drainage benefits are a lovely bonus. I always do it before showering, then apply moisturiser to damp skin and let it dry naturally. I actually learned this little ritual years ago from one of my bridal clients, and I’ve never looked back.

Adding chia seeds to almost everything!
Beetroot juice, porridge, yoghurt, smoothies, salads… you name it! They’re packed with goodness, supporting heart and brain health while helping to reduce inflammation. At this stage of life, I’m all for simple habits that make a difference.
❤️ Prioritising intimacy!
As our hormones change, it’s easy for intimacy to slip down the list. For me, it’s an important way to stay connected to myself and my partner. It makes me feel more alive, more present and, quite simply, happier.
✨ Doing things that scare me a little
This definitely doesn’t come naturally! Last night I went into London to a brilliant and empowering talk - Aging Disgracefully @TheIvy, with the utterly fabulous and glamorous @jodalton, @drtam and @emsayle333 I went on my own and met some incredible people, especially Lisa from @menopositive.life and left wondering why I don’t do this more often. Sometimes the best things happen just outside your comfort zone.
Age really is just a number so they say… but feeling your best takes effort! Plus a lot of discipline and desire.

Here’s what I DON’T look for in a photographer …
1. ❌ NO JUDGY BITCHES
Yep, I said it. 😂
I would NEVER work with a photographer who brings judgment into the studio.
Open-mindedness and acceptance are non-negotiable.
There’s no judgment here at FYEO Portraits. Every woman deserves to feel comfortable, confident and completely herself.
2. ❌ NO FROSTY LENS
Someone who doesn’t see through a warm & sexy lens
I’ve designed the FYEO poses to be sexy, artistic, flattering and feminine.
And that “sexy lens” is something I teach my photographers.
It’s seeing the shot and thinking:
“WOW. That looks incredible.”
It’s knowing how to guide someone, reassure them and encourage them to try something new always respecting their boundaries and what they’re comfortable with.
4. ❌ NO HECTIC ENERGY
Calm energy is EVERYTHING in the studio.
Your photographer is your guide. And you want her to be calm and strong.
You need her to stay calm - especially when you might initially feel vulnerable or nervous.
Because you might be confronting fears you have carried for years.
You need her to be the calmest person in the room.
3. ❌ No BAD EYE FOR IT
If you can’t see a beautiful angle, recognise gorgeous light or take the initiative to create the shot…
You won’t be an FYEO photographer.
It’s instinct.
We don’t work with models in the studio. Every woman needs direction, encouragement and reassurance.
So yes, you need the technical photography skills.
But you ALSO need the eye.
And that’s why bridal boudoir Gemma is the best.

You have a 1-1 private studio experience with a female photographer at FOR YOUR EYES ONLY PORTRAITS UK.

You’ll get directed into very flattering body shapes.
Lit with skin smoothing studio lighting.
You’ll see yourself body in a new way, in angles and poses you’ve never seen before.

Here are four things I disagree with:
1. Asking clients to lie on the floor
I use a boudoir posing platform which elevates clients off the floor, not puts them down on it.
I would never ask a bridal boudoir client to lie on the floor for a boudoir pose.
To me, bridal boudoir is about creating beautiful, elegant body portraits and lingerie portraits. I don’t believe a woman should be asked to lie down on a floor, particularly while wearing lingerie or nothing at all.
There are countless ways to create powerful, sensual and artistic images without putting a client on the floor.
For me, it’s simply about respect, elegance and how I want my clients to feel during the experience.
To capture the best body shapes, including lifts and arches on film a hard surface is required. It is lazy and down right disrespectful to use the floor.
2. Sharing private client bridal boudoir photographs
I don’t share private client work unless the client has specifically given me permission to do so. And there’s a reason for that. It’s about respect. And trust.
Bridal boudoir is commissioned as a private photographic experience, intended for the client and whoever she chooses to share those images with.
It isn’t a lingerie model shoot.
It isn’t fashion photography.
It isn’t commercial photography.
It’s personal.
And I believe that privacy should be respected unless the client herself decides otherwise.
3. Shit lighting
I use creative professional studio lighting, designed to flatter.
As a professional photographer, I place enormous importance on beautiful, flattering, artistic and creative lighting.
Boudoir photography is about shaping the body, creating atmosphere, building emotion and making someone look and feel incredible.
Putting somebody in a room with flat, boring or poorly considered light and simply taking photographs doesn’t meet my standard.
Lighting isn’t an afterthought in boudoir.
Lighting is the art.
4. Male boudoir photographers
This is probably the most controversial point and I’m very comfortable saying it.
I believe women are best served by a female photographer when it comes to bridal boudoir.
