4 simple fixes to see your body differently

1. Light
Understanding how lighting affects the way our body reflects on camera changes everything. When we realise that light can stretch, soften, hide or exaggerate, we can finally forgive our body for not looking the way we think it should.
Nothing is wrong with you.
2. How we see
We are taught to look at our bodies like a collection of parts, almost with a forensic eye. Try zooming out. Take a wider, more human view. You are not a checklist of features.
You are a whole presence, a feeling, a story.
3. Movement makes shapes
Your body is not static, so why judge it from frozen moments? We can create infinitely more shapes through movement than we ever see in everyday photos. Curves, lines, strength, softness, flow. Exploring this is a huge part of my photoshoot experience at FYEO Portraits, where your body gets to exist dynamically, not rigidly.
4. We decide
If you believe you have a body worth loving, you are right. If you believe you do not, you are also right. The truth is that we decide. We can celebrate or we can criticise. Let’s choose wisely, because this body is the longest relationship we will ever have with anybody. It deserves kindness. It deserves respect. It deserves love.
